More Work In Progress, Pictures Not Words

So the problem with journaling on paper is that it reduces my need to journal here.  The good thing about it is that I am creating lots of new work.

Work In Progress

Sorry to be silent for so long.  I have been busy in the studio, and though I have much to say, pictures will have to do for today.

Why I Sometimes Feel Bad About My Parenting

I don't enjoy my son's artistic aesthetic.

Obviously, he's very expressive and also obviously, he's having a good time.  But why does everything have to be black and grey?  And why doesn't he like brushes?

And why does he almost always end up taking a bath in paint such that I have to basically clean every surface in my home after a painting session?

Still, I feel good that I still keep doing art with him despite how much I actually don't enjoy it.  One of these days he'll paint a rainbow, right?

(P.S., This session involved non-kid acrylics on Pacon construction paper from Blick.  There's a mark left on the wall that I'll never be able to remove.)

Needle-Turn Applique is Awesome

I tried needle-turn appliqué on a towel today.  It's not a technique I use very often because it's rather time-consuming.  It is, however, very rewarding.  There's something sort of amazing about the way the shape appears below the needle.

The last time I appliquéd this deer, I just zig-zag stitched a raw edge with my machine.  I'm just not sure how much staying power that will have under the rigors of the washing machine.  So I thought I'd try this out and see how it worked.

Although I love the appearance, this really took a long time.  I'll try to get faster because I think it is lovely, but it's not terribly cost-effective.

I'm solving that dilemma a bit here by not appliquéing the edge of the deer I've buried in flowers.

I'm hoping to have this towel (and more) in the shop by the end of the week-end!

Artist Journaling

Glimpses into my New Year's Journaling Resolution process.  I have a new cheap sketch journal and some cheap gouache paints (so I don't freak out about wasting money on bad art practice).

I can't wait to take that horrible Christmas table cloth out of my dining room.
